REGARDING RUNES

If you found one of my rune guides floating around, you've come to the right place! Normally, I would have the website synced with a launch, but I saw someone had posted an older version of my Rune Primer to imgur with 100k views and I wanted to finish the newer version ASAP. Likewise, an old version of the Runes subsite is up, but I don't know how functional it is. I'll be working on it.

NEW RELEASES

February's Open Library release is "A Thief, An Assassin, A Scholar" in which Eli heads to a city to hunt down a unique treasure before a nearby volcano buries the region in fire and ash.

A THIEF, AN ASSASSIN, A SCHOLAR

A volcano threatens to raze and bury a city. Eli is powerless to stop it, but if he is swift, he might be able to secure the treasures found within.

DARK VALKYRIE: BEYOND RAGNAROK

In a world ravaged by the Twilight of the Gods, Kit is an Outrider who ventures out into the wastes of the New World on behalf of her town. There she takes up her second life as the Dark Valkyrie, a notorious viking hunter.

Today, Kit's called upon to go to the Kirksons' trading post in search of a water pump. Simple, right?

Listed here are stories either published by myself via Amazon or by a more traditional publisher.

OPEN LIBRARY

The Open Library follows a model you're probably already familiar with via image and video artists where the content is available for free, and those who wish to support the project can do so via Patreon.

Open Library titles are available to read for free with new stories every month. Stories are grouped by world, and a given world shares a consistent lore and mechancis between stories, even if those stories don't otherwise have overlaps. Click on a banner for futher details.

Elijah Dunham was born in our world, but one day he woke somewhere else entirely with no recollection as to how he got there, only a haunting feeling that he had done something terrible – a wrong only he can right. So burdened was he by this guilt, that his soul was infused with an antithetic æther, that would one day manifest and he would become a Sorcerer of the Dead. Yet this would only be the first of many strange powers and happenings to befall him in this familiar and foreign world.

TITLE LISTING — WIZARD OF WEST CITY

Wizard of West City is largely episodic, though certain tales contain events that forever shape stories thereafter. The stories below are organized into periods punctuated by major stories. Non-major stories within a period can be read in any order.

"TECHNOCRACY"

A cure-all is the oldest scam, yet in a world of actualized magic, Eli cannot so easily dismiss the possibility. He sets out in pursuit of one such rumor and stumbles upon a nation of technology—of electricity and running water—and quickly finds himself in the middle of strange politics and an ongoing struggle between the unique sect of necromancers there and the Queen of Dragons who hunts them.

"TECHNOCRACY part 2"

Eli's quest to track down and consume a panacea has found him chained to a wall, waiting dissection from the necromancers who placed him there. His only chance for survival is the arrival of the Queen of Dragons and a Witch Hunter, having come here to kill his captors, but who would just as quickly kill him, should they discovere his secrets—a cure no less dangerous that the disease.

"NECROSORCERER" — — — (major event)

It was only a matter of time before Eli's sorcery was discovered by the people of East City, and that time has finally come. With few other options, he travels to West City to appeal to an old friend, but the Prince of West City isn't so charmed to hear of who has come to join them.

A THIEF, AN ASSASSIN, A SCHOLAR

A volcano threatens to raze and bury a city. Eli is powerless to stop it, but if he is swift, he might be able to secure the treasures found within.

"WIZARD OF WEST CITY" — — — (major event)

The death of a monarch, a temple under siege, and an audience with a god—Elijah Dunham is nominated to his renowned position as Wizard of West City, but peace, calm, and mundane proceedings are as foreign to him as ever.

FAME and MISFORTUNE — — — (major event)

A long-standing tradition amongst necromancers was to read the Necronomicon—a tome of secrets written by Mors himself—and to take up the Death Mark as a sign of their bond to the Eldest God. Eli had no such need, as his magic is bound to his very soul and he could not fathom wearing a visible mark of one's blasphemy, let alone one that swears your fealty to a god. Yet something happened that caused him to reconsider.

"A GOOD DAY"

Elijah Dunham is out on his regular travels when he stumbles upon a morbid grove sprouting from blackened soil, and a dying village at the heart of it all.

"THE GENERAL'S LAST WORDS"

The General of the Army of West City disappeared in the dead of night, leaving behind his family, his city, and this letter.

An old king rises from his grave and conjures unto him an army of the dead that grows ever steadily under the weight of their conquest across the land, that all may be put to rest, that order may at long last be achieved, that suffering shall forever end and the world be laid still.

Do you hear him?

The Black King calls.

TITLE LISTING — END OF DAYS

There's currently only one finished story in this world, a short story of Greig's service in the Black King's legion.

"END OF DAYS"

A short story that takes the perspective of a skeleton in a Necromancer's army and all the oddities and horrors that come with it.

TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED
Terrantula was intended as a serial set in contemporary America in order to explore ideas that weren't commonly understood, yet were of common concern. However, as 2020 has continued on, it's become harder to understand how to write a contemporary story, especially one whose themes are now part of regular conversation between normal people. If the world ever calms down, I'll try to figure out how Terrantula fits back into where we settle. Until then, you can enjoy all both of the stories I had so far:

After a strange trip to a conference, science reporter Michael Collins returned to South Carolina to find he'd changed. Can he put these changes to use for good, or does the world need Michael Collins more than it needs the Terrantula?

TITLE LISTING — TERRANTULA

Terrantula is serial and meant to be read in chronological order.

Episode 1

Michael Collins is a small-time science reporter who's gone up to NYC to attend and report on a big science conference happening there.

When he wakes up the Sunday after, he can't remember the night before, but he's been given strange, new powers in exchange. Upon his safe return to South Carolina, it's up to him not only to figure out what his new powers can do, but what he should do with them.

Episode 2

MC's future as a science reporter continues to grow brighter with the addition of new segments and a new contact with strange new ideas, but his future as Terrantula looks rather more grim.

ABOUT + LINKS

I'm an author of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror with the "and" playing an important role as elements of each show up in every story, be it Sam of Grayhaven's scientific approach to magic, Erebus' encounters with eldritch powers in the far future, or just general unsettling atmospheres and descriptions. My education in computer science and math, as well as my hobby of gaming, also play into the way my stories are constructed and presented.

For updates on my work, follow me on Facebook. I also have a Twitter and Patreon page, which you can use to support my Open Library. I don't update these other social media pages as regularly due to a lack of following, but I'll be happy to change that, given the incentive.
